Wallis Companies has been affiliated with Mobil since 1968. During this time, we have grown from 1 branded site to over 90 branded sites doing 150 million gallons of gasoline. ExxonMobil has been a true partner in every sense of the word over the years. They have been a trusted resource and advisor helping us with strategic issues such as network planning, real estate, organizational efficiency, and retail best practices.
Our big step with Mobil came when we acquired all their assets in the St. Louis market in December of 1993. From 1994 through 2004, our volume with them grew at an annual rate of 8.5%, compared to an industry annual growth rate during that same time of 1.5%. We were fortunate enough to be the national test market for Speedpass back in the mid-90’s, and have worked very closely with the On the Run group and other projects during this time. Lynn Wallis has served on their national advisory board and worked with ExxonMobil management to bring positive changes to the distributor class of trade.
In addition, Wallis is one of ExxonMobil’s top ten distributors in the country for lubricants. This has again been possible by our two companies working together and taking advantage of strategic opportunities in the market place. We look forward to many more years of increased market share with both fuels and lubes, and appreciate their support of the Bill Wallis Classic.
BP
Wallis Companies has been affiliated with BP since 2002; however, the local representatives from Amoco have been calling on us for over 20 years. We started with BP about 5 years before the St. Louis metro market assets became available. This brief relationship helped us work through the negotiations to finally purchase 58 locations in St. Louis from BP in May of 2006.
We are excited about these sites and their operators, and even more excited about the opportunity to grow and strengthen the brand in our market. Although our relationship with BP is still relatively young, they have shown a willingness to listen and help our company grow and prosper in this business.
New relationships take time to grow and mature, but with BP’s strong marketing efforts and freshly upgraded equipment at these sites, our combined market share will increase. We look forward to the future with BP and appreciate their Partner Level support of the Bill Wallis Classic.
